Travel Outfits

Which outfit below would be your go to outfit for traveling?

This mama is a planner and I am thinking ahead–trying to figure out which outfit would be the best to travel in for our trip to Jamaica.

The kids, David, and I will be driving to Atlanta the night before our flight–since we leave early in the morning the next day. In my mind, I would bring both of these outfits, Outfit A for the car ride to Atlanta, and Outfit B for our flight to Jamaica BUT which outfit do you gravitate to more?

Outfit A, is an American Eagle gray waffle top. Its longer in the back and shorter in the front which is perfect to wear with leggings. The leggings are my go to–Lululemon Align leggings (28″) which are an investment–but TOTALLY worth it. I wear these leggings every chance I get. They are extremely comfortable and they are not see through–especially when you bend over for any reason. They are also high rise so they tend to hold everything in while being comfortable all at the same time. I paired the outfit with a pair of slip on Birkenstock sandals. I am not lying when I tell you how comfortable all Birkenstocks are. Again, I do feel like they are an investment, however, they last forever!!!

Outfit B, is another American Eagle inspired outfit. It is typically cold in most airports so since I chose shorts for this outfit, I knew I wanted to go with something warm to wear for my top. The top is from Aerie and the color matches perfectly with jeans shorts. The vans add a little flare to the outfit–which I love. I have this pair of Vans in gray but will be ordering these ASAP. They are so comfortable and a cute addition to any outfit.

I have traveled a bit in my day and I find it extremely important to travel in comfort.

Let me know which outfit if your favorite! I will link all items for you next to the picture below 🙂

Why Should Evangelicals Observe Lent

Teach us to number our days and we’ll become aware of our mortality and our finiteness and we’ll thank God that we have been loved with the love that is stronger than death.

A Time of Solemn Contemplation

Growing up in a Christian household, we always held Christ in high regard–living our lives according to the gospel. We went to church every Sunday and my parents did everything they could to raise their two daughters in the ways of the Lord.

When I accepted Jesus in my heart, I quickly began to understand the importance of repentance–going to Christ in humility asking him for forgiveness of my sins. I remember crying hysterically once I fully comprehended the love of Christ and the sacrifices he made for me. Even at such a young age, the idea of sacrifice was a concept I understood and I truly wanted to do everything in my power to live a life Christ would be proud of.

As I got older, and started to understand more about the complexities of religion–I began asking questions that challenged my faith, deepening my understanding of Christ so I had less room for doubt. Knowledge is power and I wanted to learn as much as possible so I could unapologetically believe and lead others to believe as well.

In my early stages of seeking this knowledge, I remember seeing my Catholic friends at school with ash on their foreheads and asked with curiosity what it meant and symbolized. The idea of confessing your sins and expressing and professing devotion to God was something we did at church during communion, yes, but to have a specific tradition–which led to Easter (one of the most significant holidays in Christian religion–besides Christmas) I found fascinating. I never really understood why Evangelicals did not really celebrate Lent.

What is Ash Wednesday and Lent?

Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lenten, a period leading up to Easter, a day where Christians recognize and celebrate the resurrection. Ash Wednesday–being 6 1/2 weeks before Easter, starts the 40 day fast (Sundays are excluded) in imitation of Jesus fasting in the wilderness before he stated His public ministry.

During this period, Christians show repentance and mourning for their sins, because they truly believe in what Christ has done for them. The true idea is to turn away from sin and believe in the gospel.

My Reason’s for Celebrating Lent

Even though it is not customary for an evangelical to participate in Lent, I want to formally participate this year. I may not go to Catholic Mass to get the traditional ash on my forehead, but I will pray and make a commitment to God to give something to Him for 40 days. I feel compelled to show a little sacrifice and to show intentionality in preparing my heart for Easter–a day that means so much to me and my family. Christ suffered and sacrificed so much for me, and Lent is a beautiful tradition that I believe allows people to show their love and devotion to the God who saves, forgives, and shows grace to His children everyday.

Daddy Daughter Dance

“A father holds his daughter’s hand for a short while, but he holds her heart forever.”

Oh my word, Lilli and David had the absolute best time at the Daddy Daughter Dance at her school.

Growing up, I didn’t have this opportunity but I would have loved to. Knowing how special a day like today is, we let Lilli have complete control over what she wanted to wear and how she wanted her hair. We shopped at Target, and my in-laws bought her the outfit to make her feel extra special for their date night.

My 6 year old is such a girly girl and to be honest, so opposite of her mommy, so we truly let her take the reigns as this was such a special day–as I would have picked out something she probably would not have liked.

There is something so special between the bond of daddy and daughter. With David, my husband, working a lot more recently, we wanted to document the occasion so Lilli could always remember her first date was with her daddy–a day when his undivided attention is on his baby girl!

Thanks for reading along!! I pray for all the daddy’s in the world always make sure they make their little girls feel loved, special, and wanted!

Winter to Spring Outfits

I find it so hard to sometimes find the right things to wear in that weird transitional time between winter and spring.

Living in South Carolina, especially–we never know what type of weather we are going to have day by day. Today for example, the high was 60 degrees, and tomorrow–SNOW is in the forecast. I thought Florida weather was bi-polar but I think that South Carolina is holding 1st place.

I wanted to come up with two specific looks, both totally my style, but to be honest–I could simply live in the new Lululemon Align (high-rise) Tie Die Leggings. I haven’t ordered this specific pair yet, but when I do, I think you won’t be able to get them off of me.

If you happen to live in an area a lot colder than it is in South Carolina, you can add a nice trench coat to the outfit on the left and a trendy puffer jacket to the outfit on the right. Either look allows room for comfort and both outfits have some color that represents the flowers that are about to bloom in spring!

Underneath the picture below, you will find the links to all these items. Simply click and shop away! Let me know of course if you like any particular outfit or if you purchase any of these items.

Here is to wishing for warmer weather and for Spring to get here a little quicker!

National Drink Wine Day

Happy happy day! Today we get to celebrate the wonder of such a delectable beverage–WINE! Believe it or not, wine used to be consumed more than water. In the Dark Ages, wine was more considered more safe to drink than water was…making it the most widely consumed beverage of its time.

Today, wine is still gracing us with its presence, enjoyed by million across the world on a daily basis.

My kiddos refer to wine as mommy’s juice–as they know it’s juice that mommy doesn’t share as everything else is fair game.

Here are some wine facts to brighten up your day!

  1. Drinking red wine in small doses is better for you than not drinking at all.
  2. The custom of bumping glasses with a “cheers” greeting came from old Rome where they used this method to make sure no one is trying to poison the other (bumping glasses makes the drink spill from one cup to the other). This tradition started even earlier in ancient Greece – where the host was to drink the first cup of wine to show his guests he does not intend to poison them.
  3. In ancient Rome it was forbidden for women to drink wine. If a husband found his wife drinking wine he would be allowed, by law, to kill her (umm, no thank you!!)!!!
  4. Don’t keep your wine bottle standing up – this can cause the cork to dry, shrink and oxygen\air might get in the bottle. Always keep the bottles lying down
  5. Wine is FAT free and cholesterol free!!
  6. The wreck of the Titanic holds the oldest wine cellar in the world and despite the wreckage and the depth, the bottles are still intact.
  7. Two new studies have shown that polyphenols in wine (and chocolate!) increase blood flow and oxygen to the brain, boosting cognitive ability. The effect gets even more beneficial as you age, since there is a natural reduction in blood supply around the brain later in life. All the more reason to have a glass of ‘medicine’ and a little dessert every chance you get.
  8. Some red wines are better for you than others.
  9. Young red wines are better for you than old red wines.
  10. The color in red wine comes from the grape skins.
  11. As red wines age, they become lighter in color.
  12. Nearly all red wines are made from one species of grape.
  13. Red grapes are older than white grapes.
  14. Red wines commonly contain less sulfates than white wines.
  15. Red wine grapes can be made into white wine.
  16. Hundreds of aromas found in red wine come from just grapes.

So here a toast to life! May your week be full of love, laughter, and lots of wine!
